Having an automatic garage door can make your life a lot easier. Unfortunately, those doors can also make burglars' lives much easier too. You have done what you can to make sure that your family is safe in other ways, so you don't want your garage door to become a weak spot in your home's security. There are things that you can do that will make sure that doesn't happen. 

Cover the Windows

If your garage door has windows, you will want to cover them or change out the door so that it is a solid door. The reason to do this is that having windows or uncovered windows in your door will let people see if you are home or not. If they can look in your window and see that there is no car in your garage, then your house can be targeted. People who want to break into your house want to have easy targets, and if they have to guess if you are home or not, they are much less likely to pick your house. You don't have to do anything elaborate to cover your windows, even just putting colored paper over them will work. 

Get a Deadbolt

Another thing you can do is to make sure that you are keeping your family safe is to make sure that you have a good solid door with a good lock in between your garage and your house. Putting a deadbolt on that door will make sure that it's much more difficult for people to get into your house, even if they get into your garage. While you are making sure that you have a good lock on your door, you will also want to make sure that the door is solid as well as the door frame. A good lock will only go so far if the door is flimsy because they can break the door and not have to bother with the lock. Many of the doors between the garage and house are often interior doors which are just not as sturdy as an exterior door. Switching that door over to an exterior door will make it harder to break down that door.
